What grout sealing and recoloring can help with
Most grout is cement based and porous. It soaks up spills, mop water and dirt, which is why it darkens and stains over time. Sealing slows that down, and color sealing can cover discoloration that cleaning alone can’t remove.
Stained grout
Coffee, wine, pet accidents and dirty mop water can leave marks that don’t come out. Color sealing covers them with one even color.
Still dark after cleaning
Sometimes even professional tile and grout cleaning can’t bring grout back to its original color. Color sealing is the next step.
Uneven or faded color
Traffic lanes, sunlight and harsh cleaners leave grout blotchy. Recoloring makes every joint match again.
Grout that soaks up spills
Unsealed grout absorbs liquid fast. A penetrating sealer helps it resist spills and makes it easier to keep clean.
Mismatched after repairs
New grout rarely matches old grout. Color sealing blends repairs into the rest of the floor.
Outdated grout color
Tired of the color you have? Choose a new shade that suits your tile and your space.
What sealing won’t fix: loose, missing or badly cracked grout and loose or hollow tiles are repair problems, not sealing problems. If we find them at your estimate, we’ll tell you and talk through repairs first.
Clear penetrating sealer or color sealer?
We offer both. The right one depends on your grout’s condition and the look you want, and we’ll recommend one at your estimate. Our guide to grout cleaning vs. grout recoloring explains more.
Penetrating (impregnating) sealer
Color sealing (recoloring)
Neither one replaces regular cleaning, and neither makes grout stain proof, but both make grout easier to care for.
Choose the grout color you want
With color sealing, the color is your call. Refresh the shade you have, or pick a new one that better suits your tile and your space.
Step 1
See the options
At your estimate, we show you the grout colors available from the manufacturers we use.
Step 2
Pick your shade
Choose a color close to your original grout, or a new one that suits your tile better.
Step 3
We order your color
We order the color sealer in your shade directly from the manufacturer.
Step 4
We apply it
We clean and prepare your grout, then apply your color joint by joint.
Tip: colors on a screen don’t always match finished grout, so compare the manufacturer’s color chart against your tile in your own light.
Our grout sealing process
Sealing works best on clean grout, so most of the work happens before the sealer goes down.
Step 1
Clean
We scrub the tile and grout with our floor machines and a heavy duty tile and grout cleaner.
Step 2
Extract
We extract the loosened dirt, grime and cleaning solution with high powered vacuums.
Step 3
Color seal grout
We apply the color sealer in the shade you chose to every grout joint. If you’re keeping your current grout color, we use a clear penetrating sealer instead.
Step 4
Buff off floor
Once the sealer is dry, we buff the floor to remove any residue from the tile, then check every joint for even coverage.
