What travertine polishing can fix

Travertine forms with natural holes and has a softer, more open surface than most stone. Over time, foot traffic and cleaning wear down the finish, and holes filled at install can open back up. Travertine floor polishing and repair bring back an even, finished look.

Dull, uneven finish

Traffic lanes, entries and kitchens wear first and lose their shine. Honing and polishing bring the whole floor back to one even finish, glossy or satin.

Scratches and wear

Grit, chair legs and pets leave fine scratches. Most can be honed out. Deeper damage takes more work, and we’ll tell you what to expect at your estimate.

Etching

Travertine reacts to acids like citrus, wine, vinegar and some cleaners, which leave dull etch marks. Etching is surface damage that can usually be honed and polished out.

Holes and pits

Open holes collect dirt and can chip at the edges. We fill them so the surface is smooth and easier to clean.

My husband and I thought the matte finish might look good. It was AWFUL. I called Jack and told him we made a terrible choice. Our travertine restoration process

Here’s how we bring travertine floors back to a clean, polished finish.

Step 1

Cleaning

We deep clean the stone and grout to remove dirt, residue and old coatings.

Step 2

Honing

Diamond abrasives level uneven areas and remove scratches, etching and wear.

Step 3

Polishing

We polish to the finish you choose, from a soft satin to a high gloss.

Step 4

Filling and sealing

We fill open holes and voids so the surface is smooth and solid, then seal the stone with a penetrating sealer and walk the finished floor with you.
